Congratulations, you’ve created your first menu items!
Now, you might want to offer your customers additional choices when they select a menu item. This may be for important questions - such as how that steak is cooked, adding/removing any ingredients, or requiring a choice of milk type in a coffee.
Giving your customers choices on each item is also a great way to increase their spend! Adding extra ingredients for a few extra dollars, or giving them a choice to swap to a more premium option encourages customers to consider options they may not have even known about.
The process for adding modifiers depends on whether your menu is synced with your POS. If synced, modifiers should be created in your POS system, which will then sync with me&u. Otherwise, you can create them directly within me&u.
So, what exactly is a modifier?
Modifiers are used to add, remove, or change menu items. Some POS systems call these variants or options. You can attach different modifiers and modifier groups to each menu item, or use the same ones on multiple items.
What are some common examples?
- Add items e.g. adding extra bacon or a hash brown to a burger
- Remove items e.g. remove the bacon from a salad
- Make a choice e.g. select the preferred garnish in a gin and tonic
- Cooking styles e.g. choose between well done, medium, medium-rare and blue; or scrambled, fried and poached.
How do I set up modifiers?
Follow the steps on how to create modifiers below depending on whether your menu is synced with your POS or not.
- If your menu is synced with your POS, modifiers need to be created in your POS, which will then be reflected on your me&u menu
